Internet sleuths went about trying to figure out exactly who "Potential Breakup Song" was really about.
If you grew up in the early 2000s then you might remember the sister duo "Aly and Aj" and their hits you would jam to at the middle school dance. Oh, the Disney Channel days! Then you must remember "Potential Breakup Song" and belting the lyrics "You're not livin' 'till you're livin', Livin' with me" at the top of your lungs, right? Now that I got your memory going, do you remember who this song was about?
Elle Mills speculates it's about Joe Jonas and she has the evidence to back it up!
"ok so you’re telling me that i went 13 years not knowing that one of the greatest songs ever written was about joE JONAS THIS ENTIRE TIME," she tweeted.
"I'm conflicted," said one user after finding out the alleged news.
Another user went on to tell us about the time Joe sent AJ "an ice cream cake to be delivered to her front door" the day after forgetting to call her on her birthday, need we mention it was melted. Hence the line
"It took too long for you to call back
And normally I would just forget that
Except for the fact it was my birthday
My stupid birthday"
Honestly, sounds pretty convincing but there's no source so the sleuthing continues!
Sarah McGonagall mentioned that AJ "had a custom bedazzled picture frame on her bedside table with a photo of [joe and her] on a date at Six Flags." The two dated sometime in their teen years obviously at the height of both of their careers. "It's like you didn't even READ Tiger Beat magazine," McGonagall continued.
All this sounds super convincing and I'm sold that the song is in fact about Joe Jonas but AJ came to clear the air and proclaim it is in fact NOT about Joe!
"Flattery not Potential," the Aly & Aj account clarified. Although fans were shocked to find this out, it isn't the first time the sister duo has revealed such information. During their 2018 Promises tour, Aly spilled the tea on the song and her sister. "This song is actually about Joe Jonas, which is kinda funny," Aly revealed.
"THEN WHO FORGOT THE BIRTHDAY," asks one user.
"FLATTERY WAS ABOUT JOE MY WORLD HAS BEEN ROCKED THANK YOU," mentioned another user.
It's good to know that the tea has been spilled and settled but the question still remains; Who is "Potential Breakup Song" about?
