We Missed You Kylie Jenner!

This article is tagged as #School. It was previously published on a different website as a part of Stephanie Pichardo's Senior Comprehensive Assignment.

We live in the age of the internet where we constantly need our feed to supply us with the latest news on what we like.

If you’re not sitting down watching 1-minute food tutorials or watching the latest makeup trend, there’s a chance you're keeping up with the news on your favorite celebrity.

Along the way, you’ll most likely stumble across a Kardashian-Jenner member. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to avoid them, they’ll always be in your entertainment news feed online or on TV.

What happens when the most followed Kardashian-Jenner family member goes off the radar for a few months right in the middle of a news breaking rumor?

In September 2017, rumors started swirling online that the youngest Kardashian-Jenner sister was pregnant with boyfriend Travis Scott’s baby.

The media went crazy trying to get pictures of Kylie, however, for a while, there were none.

Fans were waiting for confirmation from her for months, but no answer.

Instead, her only activity was posting throwback pictures of herself instead of recent full-body ones like she usually does.

Deemed the queen of Snapchat, she wasn’t even posting as much to her story.

On November 5, 2017, The Daily Mail posted pictures of Kylie wearing baggy clothing, which only fueled up the pregnancy rumors even more. She claimed they were altered but fans were beginning to get skeptical.

Even those who didn’t care took to twitter their thoughts.

Why is it that whether we care or not, we continue to mention things like Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy rumors or any Kardashian-Jenner related news?

People today are programmed to have a consumer mentality.

Whether it’s a product update like the iPhone upgrade or doorbuster sales we wait a whole year for on Black Friday, we need are in the constant state of “need”.

The Kardashian-Jenner family has proven to work like a product themselves.

They all have their own joint and separate businesses.

From apps to makeup brands and starring in their own reality TV show, they always have something to sell us. This means that we will always want to know more and more about them.

In an article published in Psychology Today, Doctor Saul Levine explains why we “Keep up With The Kardashians” by arguing that the media has made us envy and praise famous people. He says, “[we] get pleasure watching them soar high or fall from grace, and when they do fall, their fans revel in their misfortunes and cluck at their follies, feeling “holier than thou” and better about themselves.”

It’s evident that the lives of the Kardashian-Jenners affect our emotions.

When the Kylie pregnancy rumors surfaced, fans were jumping for joy and waiting for her to confirm it. Eventually, Kylie did confirm.

On February 4, 2018, Kylie released a heartfelt Instagram post announcing the birth of her daughter, Stormi, and an apology for being out of the spotlight.

Along with that, she posted a youtube video titled “To Our Daughter.”

The video took the fans on the private journey of her pregnancy.

This could arguably have broken the internet. Hundred of posts began circulating all over twitter about the news.

As soon as the news broke out, it was the only thing people could talk about despite this happening the same day as one of the most awaited events of the year -- The Super Bowl.

Hearing about Kylie Jenner having her baby being talked about more than the Super Bowl proves their impact on social media and our lives are powerful.

Whether it be because of our love or hate for them, everyone is always Keeping Up With the Kardashians!
